Apprenticeship

The main purpose of this program is to teach you the trade skills necessary to carry out aircraft maintenance efficiently and safely. You will have the opportunity to work on our aircraft almost straight away, with the supervision of our specialist, qualified engineers. All apprentices are based in our newly formed Melbourne Precinct.

Our Apprenticeship Program takes apprentices for the following trade streams, within aviation:

• Structural
• Mechanical
• Avionics

To be considered for the Apprenticeship Program you will have:

• A year 10 school certificate or equivalent
• Work experience within an industrial environment (preferred but not essential)
• A genuine interest in mechanics and the aviation industry
• Good manual dexterity (hand skills), mechanical/electrical aptitude and computer literacy
• A thirst to learn and a willingness to adapt to an ever-changing environment

The recruitment process

1. Online application

To apply, you’ll need to complete an online application providing information about your education, work experience and preferences. You’ll also need to attach key documents including a cover letter and a copy of your current resume.

2. Online assessment

Once your interview has been reviewed, you may be requested to do some online assessments focusing on problem solving and safe work behaviour.

3. Assessment centre

Successful applicants will be invited to attend an assessment day in Melbourne. If selected, this will be your first opportunity to meet some of our team, including representatives from our recruitment team, people team, hangar leadership team and some of our current engineers. You’ll participate in both group and individual activities and have the opportunity to understand more about our organisation and Jetstar’s culture and values.

4. Reference checks

You may need to provide 2 reference checks if required by our recruitment team, ideally from managers from your current/previous jobs.

To be eligible to apply to the Jetstar Apprenticeship Program you must:

• be an Australian Citizen or a Permanent Resident of Australia
• be able to attend key stages of the recruitment process, in person, if requested
• be willing to undergo a pre-employment medical assessment plus drug and alcohol testing

It is a requirement that all Jetstar employees hold a Qantas Group Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC). This requires a full pre-employment criminal history check.
