The big delivery

As Brett listened to his manager share the news, he couldn't wipe the smile off his face. Taking delivery of a brand-new Boeing wasn't just a career highlight, it was an honour, and here he was, part of the team heading to Seattle to pick up the keys.

After 20 years as an engineer, he still couldn't believe how fast things moved at Jetstar. People here were always exploring innovations and opportunities. For team members, that meant a chance to prove your abilities. When he suggested a smarter way to fix defects to the manufacturers, he never imagined they would embrace the idea and it would lead to the engineering trip of a lifetime. He was going to wear this smile all day.

The test of skill

Brett stood back and took a breath. After flying out of their base in Sydney, the last four days in Honolulu had been a whirlwind but he was really proud of what he and the team had achieved. It was the first time they'd changed an engine in Hawaii – little did he know the challenges they'd face!

His first job was getting to know a new team. They'd flown in from across Australia so he'd had to make friends quickly and hit the ground running. Then there was the equipment. In the hangar base back home, he knew exactly where everything was. To source the tools here, he needed to be at his most resourceful. It was amazing what could be achieved with a little ingenuity and teamwork.

Now, there she stood against the Hawaiian sunset – another Dreamliner ready to go. Brett gathered with the other engineers for one final check. In the distance, he could see passengers for Sydney arriving at the gate and knew they'd made perfect time. He'd flown all over Jetstar's network but never Honolulu so a beer with the team was well deserved. The first round was definitely on him.
