The adrenaline rush

Nick looked at the operations board and then at his watch. They had over a dozen Jetstar flights to re-route from Indonesia and very limited time.

He'd heard about the volcano late last night and now all hands were on deck getting everyone home. His mind was racing but deep down, there was calm. After all, he had a talented team who could think on their feet, many of whom he'd trained.

Flights were changing by the minute but this is what he loved – quick reactions, planning under pressure. Just watching the Operations and Control Centre was a rush. The weather could change in a split-second so their decision-making had to as well. The pressure of the JOCC, as they called it, wasn't for everyone, but this was where Nick thrived.

The fast track

With the Operations and Control Centre in full swing, Nick tried to keep two steps ahead. As Jetstar's youngest Duty Manager, he had a lot of responsibility but knew he could handle it.

That was the great thing about Jetstar. For someone who was motivated and prepared to put in hard work like he was, there were no limits. His career could have gone a number of ways, but work experience at an airport led to aerospace engineering and now here he was – a decision maker.

As another flight change came in, Nick rolled up his sleeves. 'Right' he thought to himself 'This is where the real fun starts…'
